FAQ's

Is Gwinn Sawyer Veterinary Clinic under new ownership?

Yes. Dr. Joanna Spencer has taken over the clinic and is honored to continue the care and service that Dr. Wilcox built within the community.

Why did the clinic name change?

The clinic is now called North Heart Vet – Gwinn Sawyer.
The new name reflects our long-term vision of compassionate, community-centered veterinary care for the Upper Peninsula while honoring the clinic’s history and roots in Gwinn and Sawyer.

Will the staff still be the same?

Yes — clients will continue seeing many familiar faces.
We know how important continuity and trusted relationships are,
and we are committed to supporting both our team and our
clients through this transition.

Is the clinic staying open?

Absolutely.
We are committed to continuing veterinary care for the community and maintaining stability during the transition process.

Will anything change?

Some changes will happen gradually over time as we update systems, improve workflows, expand services, and modernize parts of the clinic. Our goal is to make thoughtful improvements while keeping the welcoming, community-focused atmosphere clients know and trust.

Will my records or appointments be affected?

We will continue working to keep appointments and patient care running as smoothly as possible. As we transition from paper systems to updated digital systems, we appreciate your patience and understanding. Since we are technically a "new company" we may request new patient/client forms for our system.

Are you accepting new clients?

Yes. We recognize the tremendous need for veterinary care in our community, especially for families who may not currently have access to a veterinarian, and we are committed to welcoming new clients to North Heart Vet – Gwinn Sawyer.

At the same time, we want to ensure we continue providing the exceptional care, communication, and attention that our patients and clients deserve. Because of this, new client appointments may be introduced gradually as our schedules, staffing, and systems adjust during the transition.

Our goal is to grow thoughtfully and responsibly — expanding access to care while maintaining the quality of medicine and client experience that our community expects and deserves.

We truly appreciate your patience, understanding, and support as we build for the future together.

What can clients expect moving forward?

Clients can expect compassionate care, clear communication, and a continued commitment to the health and wellbeing of pets throughout the Upper Peninsula.

We understand change can be difficult, especially when it involves the people and places you have trusted with your pets for many years. Our goal throughout this transition is to provide stability, clear communication, and continued compassionate care for both our clients and our team.

We appreciate your patience, trust, and support as we begin this next chapter together.
